A Fracturing Orb is one of the most valuable endgame crafting currencies in Path of Exile 2, designed to give players more control over high-stakes item crafting. As Path of Exile 2 Currency crafting systems grow deeper and more punishing in the endgame, protecting powerful modifiers becomes increasingly important. Fracturing Orbs solves that problem by allowing you to permanently lock an affix on an item-ensuring that no other currency can modify or remove it.

This guide covers how to get Fracturing Orbs in Path of Exile 2, the best farming strategies, and the optimal way to use them during a craft.

What Is a Fracturing Orb in Path of Exile 2?

A Fracturing Orb is an endgame currency item that permanently fractures one modifier on a piece of gear. Once fractured, that modifier:

Cannot be removed
Cannot be replaced
Cannot be modified by any other currency

The fractured affix is visually distinct, appearing in golden text on the item. This makes Fracturing Orbs one of the most powerful tools for deterministic crafting in Path of Exile 2.

How to Get Fracturing Orb in Path of Exile 2

Fracturing Orbs are only obtainable in endgame content, and even then, they come with strict conditions.

Fracturing Orb Drops from Cleansed Monsters

Fracturing Orbs only drop from cleansed monsters, which do not appear naturally in standard maps. To spawn cleansed monsters, you must complete a Corrupted Nexus on the Atlas.

Here's how the process works:

1. Enter a map that contains a Corrupted Nexus
2. Complete the Corrupted Nexus encounter
3. The surrounding Atlas regions become cleansed
4. Cleansed maps gain special modifiers
5. Cleansed monsters can now drop Fracturing Orbs

Without completing a Corrupted Nexus, Fracturing Orbs will never drop-no matter how much item quantity or rarity you stack.

Corrupted Nexus Requirements

To even spawn a Corrupted Nexus, your Waystone must meet a strict requirement:

The Waystone must have at least four explicit modifiers

This requirement often catches players off guard, but it's a crucial step in unlocking Fracturing Orb farming.

Once the Nexus is cleared:

A secondary boss, Eater of Flesh, appears
Defeating it grants Atlas Passive Skill Points
Nearby Atlas zones become cleansed

This makes Corrupted Nexus maps extremely valuable, as they reward both Atlas progression and high-tier Path of Exile 2 Currency.

Guaranteed Fracturing Orb: Immured Fury

If you want a guaranteed Fracturing Orb drop, look for cleansed zones that contain the Immured Fury boss encounter.

Immured Fury always drops a Fracturing Orb
This is the most reliable farming method
Ideal for players planning major crafting projects

Because of this guaranteed drop, Immured Fury encounters are highly contested and often drive players to either heavily farm Atlas content or buy POE2 Items and currency to keep up.

Increasing Fracturing Orb Drop Rates

While drops are rare, you can improve your chances:

Increase item rarity on your Waystone
Equip rings and amulets with item rarity
Run high-density cleansed maps

Although rarity does not guarantee a Fracturing Orb, it significantly improves the odds of valuable currency drops from cleansed monsters.

Alternative Method: Buying Fracturing Orbs

If farming Corrupted Nexus maps isn't appealing, Fracturing Orbs can also be acquired through the Currency Exchange or player trading.

However, expect high prices:

Fracturing Orbs often cost multiple Divine Orbs
Demand is extremely high due to crafting power
Many players choose to buy POE2 Currency instead of farming

This makes Fracturing Orbs one of the most expensive and prestigious crafting currencies in the game.

How to Use Fracturing Orb in Path of Exile 2

Using a Fracturing Orb follows the same basic process as other currencies:

1. The target item must have at least four affixes
2. Use the Fracturing Orb on the item
3. One random affix becomes fractured
4. That affix is permanently locked in place

The fractured modifier will appear in gold text and cannot be altered by any crafting method.

When to Use a Fracturing Orb

Timing is everything when using a Fracturing Orb. Because the fractured affix is chosen randomly, you should never use one on an item with weak modifiers.

Best Time to Fracture an Item

The ideal time to use a Fracturing Orb is during the early stages of a craft:

Wait until the item has four Tier 1 or Tier 2 modifiers
Make sure you would be happy locking any of those affixes
Use the Fracturing Orb to preserve at least one high-value stat

This ensures that even if future crafting steps fail, at least one premium modifier is permanently saved.

Risks and Limitations of Fracturing Orbs

Despite their power, Fracturing Orbs come with several limitations:

The fractured affix is RNG-based
You cannot choose which modifier is locked
Using a Fracturing Orb on low-tier affixes is wasteful
Corrupting the item afterward makes it unusable for future crafting

Because Fracturing Orbs are extremely expensive, careless use can result in massive currency losses.

Final Thoughts

Fracturing Orbs are one of the most impactful crafting currencies in Path of Exile 2, offering a rare way to lock powerful modifiers and buy POE 2 Currency Orbs reduce crafting volatility. However, their scarcity, high cost, and RNG-based nature mean they should only be used with careful planning.
